Hey all,
I'm having an issue with my HTC Hero where I can't receive any signal and so therefore I can't made any calls, send text messages, etc.
I've updated the rom to the latest 2.8 version by MoDaCo... and I've also been tinkering with the radio to get better wifi signal out of it!

Yesterday I was on 2.6 MoDaCo and I updated the radio from 63.18.55.06_6.35.05.15 to 63.18.55.06FU_6.35.07.08, and thus received much better wifi signal! Then I awoke this morning, to see that I had no signal whatsoever coming through from Orange and I tried downgrading to the other radios:

63.18.55.06FU_6.35.07.08 - download
63.18.55.06EU_6.35.06.18 - download
63.18.55.06_6.35.05.31 - download
63.18.55.06_6.35.05.15 - download

Then after flashing it down to the 2nd newest radio, I did get signal but couldn't make any calls... as when I go to place a phone call I can hear one or two tone beeps which meant that I had no signal even though it is connected and the same thing happens with the EU radio rom..

I tried using my other Orange mobile phone which works on E (Edge), and it works fine... Now I'm sure I haven't bricked it as I can play around with the phone!

I just can't call, text, receive signal from Orange, or even connect to Orange no more!

Can anyone advise me, please :D

Regards,
IcEmAn913

I've just tried using the sim card from the HTC Hero in my LG Viewty and it gives me full strength signal and calls do work!

So therefore, I've managed to mess up my Hero really badly! :D

Okay, I've just done a factory reset and I'm connected to 3G.. however everytime I try and make a call it cuts out automatically!

I'm getting worried now, seeing as no-one else has replied to this topic and I'm running out of ideas on how to fix my phone!!!

It's weird because I had a similar problem yesterday but I'm on the 3 Network. Every time I tried to make a call it would cut out straight away and it wouldn't send my texts, but it was connected to 3G. I rebooted my phone and then the calls worked again but about an hour later the same thing happened. The weird thing about it, was that my phone was displaying I had signal.

It seems to all be working again fine now though, and I didn't actually do anything to fix it, so I guess in my case it could have been my network.

I think I've managed to find a breakthrough!!!!

Thanks cambria83 for your first reply to my thread :D

Okay, I've found out that when I'm connected to 3G I cannot make any calls, txts, data, etc, as it won't switch to H as it would usually do... However if I was to switch to 2G then I can call, text, and use the internet!!!!

So therefore, I'm guessing there is an issue in regards to 3G on the Orange network somewhere, and if this proves to be the case then I've just wasted 3 hours on upgrading, downgrading, wiping, restoring, various roms and radios on the HTC Hero !!!!!!!

There still seems to be an issue with 3G on the Orange network, is anyone else having any problems?

Where abouts are you based? o2 had a network problem yesterday, bout 5 hours where no calls could be made. Since they all share broadcast locations it's possible you could have been affected by the same thing.

Probably down to solar flares or something lol :D
