Great review Paul. But I disagree with you regarding the aesthetic design. I think it looks clean & smart but rather boring. Could easily be mistaken for your run of the mill pda.
I used to have a Mio A701 & the antenna hump made it look distinctive but not ugly as you describe above. I liked the design of the A701 so as they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Built in wifi & gps are 2 things high up on my list of wants when choosing a device so on the face of it the Artemis would seem to be right for me. But I'm afraid the lowly processor puts an end to its desireability. I use Skype quite a lot & 200mhz just doesn't cut it I'm afraid.
Plus it does seem rather expensive compared to the competition.
I'm a happy user of the Asus P535 presently so am awaiting patiently for the P535 which should comfortably see of the Artemis.

Looks like an old Palm to me for some reason. Not that thrilled with the looks at all.
Question....is CF 1 and 2 installed with AKU3? Do CF1 apps work with 2 alone?

Just wondering.. are you aware that the phonepad has been extracted out and been in use in non-HTC devices so far? You you intend to try it to see if it's compatible?

Good review but I disagree with you on the trackball. The trackball really allows for "one handed" use of the unit which is rare in pocket pc's. HTC has really scored big with allowing this new interface to hit the market and I think people will really take to it. The device looks gorgeous and it feels more like a phone then pocket pc. Coming from an eten g500 to the p3300 is a huge change. The eten was a brick, but a very fast and responsive brick. It handled all my third party software like a champ. The p3300 looks great but is by no means designed for people that are going to utilize their pocket pc to the max. Sure battery life is great but at the cost of performance. I must admit the tomtom software worked flawless too my surprise. If you are looking for a basic pocket pc, phone, and gps you cant go wrong with the unit. It looks good and performs at what you can expect from a TI OMAP 850 200mhz. If you need more power and 3g wait for the HTC p3600, I am getting mine at the end of the month. It is suppose to have GPS so we will see.

How does the device feel more like a phone than a Pocket PC? That I DEFINITELY disagree with, the trackball makes it more PPC less phone too!

By use with one hand, I assume you mean using pointer mode? Sure, that works, but it's sooooo long winded.

Thanks for the review and all the information
Some of the comments.
- The device is small and looks good. The roller and the jog feel cheap and are not very practical. Completelly agree with Paul's review.
-Skype 2.1 doesn't work properly. you can install it, but the unit freaks when you try to make a call. Chat works. I'm trying to get the previous version and will post on it.
- A keyboard would be a major plus in my opinion.
The battery life so far so good
- The wi-fi antenna is not very good. Even next to the router it never has full coverage.
- GPS works fine in the car. the fixation out of the box was pretty fast
- I seem to have problems when calls come in and I'm using other applications. I've a lost a few.
Paul,
you speak about overclocking the processor. What's the best way to do it for this processor? Will it make it perform well with Skype since it needs a minimum 400Mhz?
Thanks
David

Could try and see if you can run a normal bluetooth GPS receiver for GPS programs (ie not use its internal GPS).
I sometimes use my current JAMin for offroad biking and can get over 6 hours use out of it and a bluetooth GPS.
I doubt that the P3300 would last that long using its internal GPS.

I live in Sweden and the P3300 has started to show up on websites here but only in grey color. I can see from the pictures here that it also comes in black? Is this true and if so, do you know if it will be distributed all over the world in two colors?
I really want to place an order right now but I´d rather go for the black one if it is possible..
